Telling It Like It Is...or a picture is worth a 1,000 words!
An extremely well written book with lots of pictures and charts. I used it to sail my 28' boat from Coconut Grove to Key West with my wife and 9 month old son. It's great for gunkholing and points out many of the unknown facts about the local area. And besides, Frank's a nice man...I can say that on authority as I have an autographed copy.

Diver's Almanac: Guide to Florida and the Keys
Published in Paperback by Triton Pub (September, 1990)
Author: Phil Trupp
Average review score:

Bright, informative, good color photos and helpful maps
This a comprehensive look at Florida diving--the diving capital of the U.S. It's a bright personal style of writing, with lots of stories and humor--refreshingly different from a typical guide. However, the book may need updating of some of the practical data. Still it's a fine read with lots of good stories.

Fishing Guide to the Upper Keys & Florida Bay
This book is a must have for anyone fishing or sightseeing on Florida Bay. The information is current and simply stated. The aerial views of the Florida Keys are themselves worth the price of the book. You need two copies - one for your home library and one to keep on the boat!

Especially for railroading buffs
Florida's Great Ocean Railway: Building The Key West Extension by former college professor, professional boat captain, environmental guide, editor and writer Dan Gallagher is a meticulous study of the construction of a railway line that required extensive logistics, meticulous planning, as well as more than a decade of labor from 1905 to 1916, before it could be put into service. The Food of Miami: Authentic Receipes from South Florida and the Keys (Periplus World Food Cookbooks)
Published in Hardcover by Charles E Tuttle Co (September, 1999)
Authors: Caroline Stuart, Kendall Hamersly, and Jacob Termansen
Average review score:

A food-lover from South Florida loves this book
This is the Real McCoy, not just another pretty picture book. While the pictures are as stunning as we've become accustomed to expect in high quality, food-oriented books these days, it's the recipes that define this extraordinary work.

The author, herself a Floridian, has exercised her native sense of balance in assembling a unique complement of South Florida's finest chefs - some very well known and some on the "up" ramp of their careers - to create the cultural mosaic which, in fact, IS South Florida.

Each of the recipes has been tested many times for home kitchen preparation, making this a very practical volume as well as a legitimate teaser to entice you to the establishments of the chefs themselves.

And how many "producers" like Ms. Stuart are capable of starring in their own production like she is - by contributing her own recipes to fully balance the content of her work?

You won't need any other book to understand, appreciate, prepare and enjoy the unique cuisine of South Florida. This book's food will make you feel the sand in your shoes and the salt air in your hair. You'll swear that you're in the Florida tropics already. And your guests for whom you prepare the recipes will surely request more.

This is the first real tribute to South Florida's diverse, exciting and totally unique cuisine. I highly recommend it.

Frank Sargeant's Secret Spots: Tampa Bay to Cedar Key: Florida's Best Saltwater Fishing (Coastal Fishing Guides, Book 1)
Published in Paperback by Larsens Outdoor Publishing (01 November, 1992)
Author: Frank Sargeant
Average review score:

Frank's da man
Any new angler looking for secret insight on the techniques of snook, tarpon, redfish and trout fishing, and how to apply them to areas of Tampa and beyond needs this book. As time goes by and our local sport fishing industy explodes, fewer and fewer professional guides that are in the know share their spots, Frank wrote this before the net ban. It is probly the last puplicized "here's how to get there and do it book" you'll ever see. Frank has tons of respect on the water and off, both as the outdoor writer for the Tribune and Florida Sportsman. All of the information and spots revealed in his book are real, true spots, some of which I personaly fish weekly, almost always with great results. But don't let Frank tell you he showed them to me. The book contains actual nav charts with most of the best honeyholes in Tampa personally marked by Frank himself. Tight lines, take a kid fising, watch out for the sharks. Always remember two things about flats fising in Florida. 1- Your'e either in the know- or in the dark. 2-90 percent of successfull fishin is tide.
